Tak, ako sa v priebehu vývoja ľudskej spoločnosti menila a pretvárala krajina, menil sa i spôsob jej vnímania človekom a jeho vzťah k nej. Krajinu definujeme z hľadiska rôznych odborných disciplín odlišne. Zjednodušene ju však môžeme nazvať domovom ľudstva, teda nás všetkých. Žijeme v nej a v jej prostredí každodenne vykonávame naše socioekonomické aktivity a uspokojujeme svoje potreby, čím do nej výrazne zasahujeme a meníme ju na svoj obraz, teda vytvárame kultúrnu krajinu, za ktorú by sme mali niesť plnú zodpovednosť. Naozaj tak konáme?
