Author Guidelines

Introduction

Authors wishing to publish their work or information texts in Envigogika should first consult the Editorial Policies, including the focus and scope of the journal, the journal sections and the peer review process procedure. In general, the journal accepts articles from the field of Environmental Education and Education for Sustainable Development, and its wider context (philosophical and other aspects, general public awareness in sustainability issues). Manuscripts intended for the journal’s peer-reviewed section may be original research articles or review articles; other (not-for-review) contributions may include inspirational texts, methodologies, book reviews, information on events, letters and opinions, as well as texts for the author’s corner.

We welcome contributions from all professionals involved in EE/ESD interested in sharing their thoughts and experience, such as educators in environmental centres, teachers and university lecturers, researchers, etc. See the focus and scope of the journal for more information.

Envigogika provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge. Authors are not charged for submission or publication of articles.

Ethics

Submission of an article to Envigogika implies that it has not been previously published in the same form elsewhere, nor can it be under consideration for publication in another medium. In certain cases, publication of already published work is acceptable (e.g. work as part of academic thesis or conference abstract), however, in that case, this must be explicitly mentioned in the manuscript and consulted with the editorial office.

Articles published in Envigogika may be subsequently published in other media under the condition that the editorial office is informed before its publication and that the original article is properly cited.

All authors of the article must have materially participated in the research and/or article preparation and all have to approve of publication of the final manuscript.

Author fees

There are no author fees or charges required for manuscript processing and/or publishing materials in the journal.

Funding sources

To encourage transparency, authors are requested to identify who provided financial support for the conduct of the research and/or preparation of the article. This should be given in a special section called “Acknowledgements” at the end of the article.

Submissions

Authors are requested to submit their contributions electronically via the journal’s online submission and review system. Registration of authors in the system is requested, which brings several benefits to the author. This includes a guided submission procedure and the entire review process with the possibility to track each stage of the article online. In addition, brief information about the author will be displayed next to each published article, which can be easily updated by the author in the journal system.

The accepted format of contributions is standard word-processing software such as MS Word or Open Office.

Language

Please write your text in good English; British spelling is preferred, but American is also accepted (but not a mixture of these). Authors who are not English native speakers are encouraged to have their manuscript checked by a native speaker or someone with a good command of English to eliminate possible grammatical or spelling errors prior to submission.

Plagiarism

Editors of the journal do routinely screen submissions for plagiarism using Charles University tools.

Review Policy

Envigogika has adopted a double blind reviewing policy, where both the referees and the authors remain anonymous throughout the process. Please remove all identifying features from the manuscript, ensuring that the authors' identity is not revealed. Authors must ensure that, in case they cite their own work, it is in a manner that does not reveal their identity. Manuscript preparation

Manuscript length depends on the journal section for which it is intended. The minimum length of articles for review (original research articles or review articles) is 9000 characters = about 5 pages long (including figures and tables, excluding bibliography). The maximum length is not firmly set, but should generally not exceed 15 pages. For non-reviewed contributions, the maximum length is 5400 characters (about 3 pages), while the minimum length is not set and depends on the type of the text (see the journal sections for more information) .

Use of word-processing software

The file intended for submission should be saved in the native format of the word processor used. The text should be in single-column form. Keep the layout of the text as simple as possible.

Structure of manuscript

All contributions are required to contain the following information:

• Title : in English and Czech (Czech speakers only, it will be translated into Czech by the editorial office for non-Czech speaking authors)
• Author(s) : full name, including titles, affiliation, e-mail address, field of expertise
• Corresponding author : indicate who will handle correspondence at all stages of refereeing as well as during and after publication
• Abstract: requested for reviewed papers in English and Czech (as per Title); the abstract should contain information on the overall context, main purpose of the study, its outcomes and implications; 150-300 words in length. If you are not able to make abstract in Czech, be so kind and write some text to the box, i.e. "Will be available later"
• Key words: in English and Czech (as per Title). If you are not able to include Key words in Czech, be so kind and write some text to the box, i.e. "Will be available later"
• Main text : in English
• Acknowledgements : all who contributed to the manuscript, but are not listed as authors, funding sources, etc. (where relevant)
• References : list of cited publications/sources (where relevant)

Structure of manuscripts intended for review

Two types of manuscripts are accepted into the reviewed papers section of the journal – 1) original research articles presenting own research outcomes, and 2) review articles summarising state-of-the-art knowledge in a particular field.

The original research articles are recommended to be based on the following structure: Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, Acknowledgements, and References.

The structure of the review articles is not as strict and depends on the particular topic. However, review articles should, in general, also contain Introduction, Conclusions, Acknowledgements, and References, with the main body of the text logically structured into specific sections.

Figures and figure captions

All figures should be submitted in a separate file, preferably in vectors; bitmap in a good resolution is also acceptable. Ensure that each illustration has a caption. Supply captions in the body of the manuscript, not attached to the figure. A caption should comprise a brief title and a description of the illustration. Keep text in the illustrations themselves to a minimum but explain all symbols and abbreviations used.

Tables

Number tables consecutively in accordance with their appearance in the text. Ensure that the data presented in tables do not duplicate results described elsewhere in the article.

References

Please ensure that every reference cited in the text is also present in the reference list and vice versa. Citations in the text should follow the referencing style used by the American Psychological Association (APA style) – see APA Guidelines. References are checked and digitalized (transformed in metadata) during the editorial process by the editorial office. If you know the DOI of the cited article, this is the most important information for us - as Envigogika is indexed in CrossRef, also all references, which are indexed in CrossRef (have DOI) must have clickable link to CrossRef (this is formated in the editorial process by tha editorial office, author does not have to care about it).

Manuscript handling time

Handling time of manuscripts submitted to Envigogika depends on the section for which the article is intended. For non-review articles, the handling time (i.e. the time between submission and acceptance) is typically 2 weeks; for review articles, the handling takes usually 3-4 weeks in total. For English issues, calls for paper are typically prepared twice a year with given deadlines for submissions (usually 4 weeks from the call release).
